Violence begets violence
Heaven if you sent us down,
So we could build a playground,
For the sinners to play as saints,
You’d be so proud of what we’ve made
I hope you got some beds around,
‘Cause you’re the only refuge now,
For every mother, every child, every brother,
That’s caught in the crossfire
I awoke to the news of yet another shooting. The violence that is wreaking havoc in our world is heartbreaking. The tragic hatred sends ripples of shock throughout the nation, and the world.
As I see the news stories rolling in, I anticipate yet another anti-gun campaign. And I’m already annoyed by it. We blame guns as if they are the problem. I know how to make a LEGIT fire, yet I don’t go setting things on fire that belong to people who have upset me or scare me. Also, let’s consider the millions of people who own guns that did NOT go shoot someone today. When will we stop blaming the tool and start blaming the heart?
The real issue here is of hatred, intolerance, demonizing the ‘other’. The problem is parents who are not present in their children lives; the parents who think making the child is synonymous with raising it in a nurturing home. The issue is those who, worse yet, teach their children how to discriminate; the people who actually think they are better than another human being because of their race, religion, economic status, or stance on ANYTHING. Just because we were born into a different life situation than someone across the world does not make us worth more than them.
Individualistic Society | Egocentric
The issue is our individualistic society that tells us to “look out for #1” at any cost. The issue is our education system reducing our children to cookie-cutter employees, removing art and music from their daily life; drowning out the flame of their natural creativity. The issue is our justice system that is anything but. The issue is the racism that lives on in our country, while in history class they lead us to believe it ended in the civil rights movement. The issue is the sex-trafficking that spans from Seattle to Miami, Spain to Thailand, raping the innocence in the world. This modern slavery is pinned on the woman selling her broken soul, while a blind-eye is turned to the men and women facilitating the abuse.
The issue is today’s music, contaminating our minds through our ears. Pop music praises casual sex, at times with a ‘joke’s on you’ message. Daily our young people are fed media that celebrates getting high to escape reality, to dwell in the sorrows of broken heartedness, to give into every temptation. These messages are popular because they resonate with where we currently are; how will we ever change our lives if we don’t change our thought-processes? The commercials, billboards, social media, and Godless-churches tell our children that they are not good enough. Tragically, some children age into adults who never find out they’ve been fooled. One can never know his/her true self in the posture of inadequacy. Until self-love is cultivated, violence will be nearby (either towards self or towards others).
Convenience of displaced responsibility
How convenient for us to blame the guns for death. How convenient for the greedy, money-worshipping powers that be promote the removal of guns in America (while they keep theirs) rather than investing THEIR money (YES, the richest of the rich who have the ability to help) in community outreach and love-wars rather than gun wars. Oh, is it that absurd to imagine the wealthy helping their state or country? Looks like the murderer isn’t the only one with the heart problem…
How far does it have to go in order for this to be considered an urgent emergency? Isn’t this bad enough?
This isn’t about guns. This isn’t about bombs. This is a matter of the heart in every single individual. Every moment of everyday, YOU are contributing to pushing your neighbor towards love or towards hate. May we stop worrying so much about how we feel and start worrying about how we make others feel. These murderers believe they are justified; they feel the same justicifation we do when we remain the victim for years without seeking necessary counseling to promote self-healing and forgiveness.
What is the resolution?
Removing guns from the general population simply will not solve the problem. If people with damaged, diseased hearts and minds want to hurt another, they will find a way to do it, with or without guns.
This violence is the result of thousands of years of conflict due to a scarcity-mindset-mentality and greed; two fear-based parents who birthed stealing, killing and destroying. It’s the result of memories passing through DNA to the next generation; children born with discrimination seeds already planted. Unless uprooted, these seeds will grow. This murder is the result of unforgiveness, multiplied by self-righteousness, passed through society like a plague.
Who do you need to forgive today? What do you need to let go of? What trauma did you experience years ago that is still setting the tone in your life today? Sometimes we continue picking the scab, because that is all we know how to do. Through It: Unveiling the Conqueror Within is purposed with actionable-steps to obtain peace, victory, and freedom. There is so much greatness within you that has yet to be unveiled! You are worth it.
May we never allow ourselves to become so disillusioned that we believe we are immune to hatred. We may not even see it in ourselves…
Maybe Jesus was onto something when He said, “forgive them, for they know not what the do” while hanging on the cross a completely innocent man. No matter how innocent, or victimized we feel, forgiveness is the only true solution.
Choose love. Every moment. Fight for love.
